Roofs generally need to be cleaned in areas where there are a lot of trees around the roof. Leaves and other debris from the trees can cover up the roof causing algae and moss development in most cases. Cleaning the roof not only improves the look but can greatly extend its life.
We provide roof cleaning services using a combination of manual and pressure washing tools. Chemicals containing bleach etc. may be required to be used to kill the moss and algae.
Can the roof get damaged during the cleaning process?
Roof shingles can get damaged if cleaning is not done carefully. A pressure washer should not be used at very high pressure as it can damage old and brittle shingles.
Cleaning chemicals used in the process should not be too harsh and should be diluted correctly to avoid damage to the roof materials and to the plants around the house.
How to prevent the growth of moss and algae on the roof?
It is recommended to trim overhanging trees and bushes from near the roof. These block sunlight and cause moisture to build up on the roof.
Installing zinc strips at the top edges can be very helpful in preventing moss growth. Regular cleanup may be required in some cases.
How often to clean the roof?
Most roofs are not even required to be cleaned for years. Also, there is no point in cleaning a roof that has very little life left from replacing the shingles.
If your house happens to have a lot of greenery around the house and you see leaves and other debris on some or all sides, it’s best to get it cleaned once every year around the fall season.
